First Nations Engagement

We acknowledge the Auburn Hawkwood and Wakka Wakka Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which Tarong West Wind Farm is proposed.

The Auburn Hawkwood and Wakka Wakka Peoples are the Traditional Owners of the land upon which the Project is proposed and maintain a deep connection to Country.

We acknowledge their ongoing connections to land, water, sky and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

RES is committed to supporting the progress of the Auburn Hawkwood People and the Wakka Wakka People, and that of the local community. We have a Cultural Heritage Management Plan and Relationship Agreement in place with the Auburn Hawkwood People and the Wakka Wakka People to manage and protect their land and culture throughout the project.

Tarong West Wind Farm CHMPs and RAs

RES understands that the transition to renewable energy that is underway in Queensland must occur fairly for First Nations People and their communities.

RES has proudly formalised and agreed a Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) and Relationship Agreement with each of the Auburn Hawkwood People Aboriginal Corporation (AHPAC) and Wakka Wakka Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (WWNTAC) for the Tarong West Wind Farm. This milestone reflects over six years of genuine partnership with both AHPAC and WWNTAC.

The CHMPs detail the protocols for the protection and management of Cultural Heritage for each of AHPAC and WWNTAC across the Tarong West Project Area that is located on each of the parties' Country, ensuring that development activities are conducted in a manner that honours and preserves both Auburn Hawkwood and Wakka Wakka cultural values on their Country.

Separately, through our Relationship Agreements, we’re committed to ongoing benefit sharing, collaboration, employment, cultural preservation and capacity building.

The RES Reconciliation Action Plan

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal documented plan that outlines an organisation's commitment to building stronger relationships and respect between non-Indigenous people and First Nations Australians.

RES’ first RAP (Reflect) was established in 2023 and progressed to the Innovate phase in early 2025 with endorsement from Reconciliation Australia. The Innovate RAP is about turning reflection into action, driving real change within our organisation and the communities we touch, building stronger partnerships, increasing cultural awareness across our teams, and fostering economic opportunities for First Nations communities.
